2018 Round up

As we look forward to 2019, the New Year also affords us the chance to reflect on 2018.

The past 12 months have been an exciting and exceptionally busy time for Rockwell. Having worked extensively with local communities and other stakeholders we were pleased to submit three planning applications, seeking permission for schemes in Westferry, Charlton and Kensington.

Permission was granted for our 30-storey hotel and residential proposal at Westferry in October. Located at the gateway to Canary Wharf, we secured Premier Inn as a partner to operate the hotel shortly afterwards. Construction is due to start in Summer 2019.

In September we announced the acquisition of Quay House, at South Quay in Canary Wharf, with our partners Firethorn Trust. Currently a vacant office, the property occupies a prime dockside location with excellent connectivity and we are excited to begin exploring options for a high quality redevelopment which optimises its potential.

Our team has also expanded, adding further expertise and experience. Jonathan Manns joined as Board Director and Head of Planning in May, becoming the youngest ever Fellow of the Royal Town Planning Institute in September in recognition of his personal contribution to the profession. He was then followed in September by Dominic O’Loghlen, who joined as Senior Planning Manager.

Our support for charitable organisations and initiatives continued throughout the year, with a particular focus on those which assist younger people. In November, the full team took part in Centrepoint’s annual “Sleep Out” and raised £7,600 to help their work tackling youth homelessness.

Then, in December, we announced a three-year sponsorship of Patchwork Foundation’s “Masterclass Series”. This encourages those from disadvantaged and minority backgrounds into politics and civil society through year-round networking and skills training.

With 2019 now upon us the Rockwell team is excited for what lies ahead. We’re confident that the coming year will be marked by further opportunities for us to deliver exceptional developments and contribute to London in ways that have genuine, lasting and positive impacts.
