On 18 June, the Rockwell team were delighted to join their 2020 Patchwork cohort for a virtual masterclass with BBC Broadcaster, Mishal Husain. As the first masterclass in the series for this year’s Rockwell cohort, it was also a great chance for the team to catch-up with our Patchworkers and hear of their progress on the programme.
Mishal has a had a momentous career in journalism and broadcasting spanning almost 30 years. From landing the Today programme, as the anchor from an ethnic minority background, to covering the Iraq war in Baghdad, she has had a truly inspiring career which has given her plenty of insight and wisdom to share with the Patchworkers.
Mishal talked openly about not feeling fully comfortable in her anchor role on the Today programme until a full 3 years in; but stressed the importance of self-belief, asserting that ‘if you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect anyone else to?’ This motivation and self-belief are a clear part of her success and she stressed the need to persist in order to succeed.
As ever, this was an insightful and motivational session and the team look forward to hearing more from Mishal again in the future.
