Fundraising for Carney’s Community
Recently Rockwell hosted a 2024 UEFA European Football Championships watch party fundraiser in support of Battersea-based boxing charity, Carney’s Community, and today the funds raised were delivered to the charity in a visit where members of the Rockwell team got to hear more about how this funding will help to sustain vital support to local underprivileged young people.
Founded in 2011, Carney’s Community is a charity and boxing gym based in Battersea which uses boxing to turn young people’s lives around through personal development. At Carney’s Community young people build trusting relationships with a single consistent person, and this relationship lasts as long as they need to help them make changes in their lives and reengage with society.
Recently, Carney’s has been putting a big focus on getting young women and girls involved, assisting with tackling the rising number of women involved in crime in and around Battersea. This is alongside their ongoing support to young people across the borough, which includes offering free meals three times a week and food care packages for those in need; opening their bike workshop and social spaces for people looking to make new friends and reengage; in addition to free boxing sessions six days a week by trained coaches.
In partnership with Aim High and Fitness Sport & Health Academy, Carney’s also provides opportunities to obtain accredited qualifications in personal training, eyelash extensions and barbering to enable people to start their own business. The Bike Workshop is another initiative which has proved to be successful – participating in a six-week course, young individuals are taught how to fix and maintain bikes. These bikes are donated to the charity, and on completion of the course participants are able to keep the bike for themselves.
Rockwell’s recent fundraiser, which was a ticketed watch party showing England’s second fixture of the 2024 ‘EUROs’ tournament, against Denmark, raised over £2,200 for Carney’s Community; and today, Dominic O’Loghlen, Nicholas Mee, and Nela Juricova from the Rockwell team caught up with Hannah Tulloch, Chief Operating Officer at Carney’s Community on Petworth Street, Battersea, to deliver the funds raised and learn more about Carney’s work.
Hannah said “Rockwell’s fundraising is incredibly beneficial and will help us to continue and expand our personal development programmes for the young people who come to us for help. We can’t thank them enough, and the people who contributed to the fundraiser – we’re so grateful for this support.”
