Rockwell Celebrates Carney’s Community 10-Year Anniversary
Last week the Rockwell team visited Carney’s Community boxing gym in Battersea to celebrate the charity’s 10th anniversary. The event welcomed members of the community to explore the facilities, meet with Carney’s staff, learn more about the charity’s work and watch participants engage in interactive demonstrations. The evening also marked the official launch of the ‘Studio’, a new space designed for recording and podcasting, further expanding Carney’s creative and educational offerings.
Carney’s Community uses boxing to transform the lives of local young people and help them to realise their potential, providing them with opportunities to build trusting relationships. The charity offers a wide community network for people to tap into and rely on, ensuring that they have strong foundations for their future development. With many of those involved in the programme eventually moving on to become coaches and mentors themselves, people have the opportunity to give back to the community, creating a virtuous cycle that can make a difference for the next generation.
The event was bustling with activity, which comes as no surprise given Carney’s reputation as a charity that plays a vital role in the local community, offering a plethora of successful programmes, ranging from boxing training to entrepreneurship and creative media. Among the many activities available, one that stood out was ‘Level Up’ – a self-employment scheme created in collaboration with A.I.M. High, designed to support young entrepreneurs in building their own businesses.
Attendees also had the chance to experience boxing first-hand stepping into the ring for a supervised session with an opponent or practice on a boxing bag, showcasing the important work of the charity and its impact on the local community.
Members of the Rockwell team were delighted to attend this event to celebrate Carney’s and its commitment to empowering the community.
