Supporting Carney’s Community
Based in Battersea, Carney’s Community is a charity and boxing gym which uses boxing as a catalyst to turn young people’s lives around with mentoring and personal development, and the Rockwell team is proud to be supporting them this summer.
Carney’s Community is inspired by Mick Carney, the boxing legend who motivated and turned around many lives through engagement with boxing. Founded in 2011, Carney’s Community has gone from strength to strength, helping countless young people in the Battersea area realise their potential.
Many young people most in need in the UK report being ‘passed between’ different agencies during their lives, leading to feelings of frustration with support services and disengagement from society. Carney’s Community seeks to solve this issue by providing opportunities for young people to build trusting relationships with a single mentor, who will be there for as long as they need and who will help them to develop employable skills, discipline, self-respect, and a sense of purpose.
George Turner (Carney’s Community Chief Executive) says, “What’s most inspiring about our community is seeing the achievements of the young people who come to us for help. They always have it in them to be positive members of the local community – we just help them identify their strengths and offer them the consistent, unconditional support they need to use these to be the best version of themselves.”
Inspired by the vital work of this outstanding local charity, Rockwell is hosting a ticketed fundraising party for the England v Denmark match on Thursday 20 June to celebrate the important work of the charity and its impact on the local community.
